The Ecke Poinsettia Manual says to apply 0.1 ppm sodium molybdate on a continuous basis, but I'm using ammonium molybdate. I think the analysis on it is either 53 or 54% molybdenum? I have been adding 1/4 teaspoon per gallon of stock at 1:100. Does this sound right?
The previous grower had supplemented it at a rate of 1/4 teaspoon per 1,000 gallons. Soil testing lab told me to go with this higher rate (10 times higher) since developing a molybdenum toxicity issue on poinsettias was unlikely. |

Shannon And Others,
If you use a lot of MO or would like to save some real money over the dinky packets of MO usually sold to growers you can buy in 8 oz., 1 pound or 25 pound bags of MO in the 56.5% Ammonium Molybdate from Vital Earth/Carl Pool Rescources. Go to the page below and from there to the "Grower Line" page and then the "Water Soluble Micro-Nutrient" page. http://www.vitalearth.com/ Michael Pawelek Pecan Hill Nursery www.pecanhillnursery.com |

Michael,
I called the company and they said they only sell to distributors. Thanks! Terry |

Terry, A local Distribtor in your area is...
BWI Companies, Inc. 4924 Hickory Hill Memphis, TN PO Box 750176 38175 1-800-489-8873 901-367-2941 |

Michael,
Do you have a contact person with them? Thanks! Terry |

Terry, I do not know anyone in the Memphis office. I deal with my local branch in Schulenberg, Texas. BWI is big in most S.E States and they supply nursery supplies and machinery, golf course chemicals, seeds and just about any product you would find in a country feed store down to leather work gloves and bird feeders. Their catalog is 400 pages and that only covers a fraction of what they sell. I get all my containers, bulk peat moss, pine bark and perlite, greenhouse coverings, and chemicals from them and they run a 50 ft. semi truck to my area once a week for delivery.

Thanks Michael
I buy ALOT of my supplies from BWI (we call them beewee for short) I will check out them out tomorrow. FYI ToTal Gro is a fert/manufacturer in Louisianna that sells direct to growers. They also sell molybdenum and food grade calcium for sprays. I don't recall the price. Do you ever make it to their buyer market/trade shows? Thanks! Terry |

Terry, I occassionally make smaller shows here in the Houston, Texas area but as a one man operation I am the grower, marketing/advertising, plumber, electrician, bookeeper, planner, builder/construction, maintainence, manager etc. and the shows I would like to attend always seem to occur right in the middle of a busy time of year so I do not get to attend. I obtain most of my information on the Nursery business, including new chemicals, growing techniques, supplies etc., from private emails to other growers, the Internet and trade magazines. Travel is kind of tough when you have greenhouses full of plants and no one to back you up if you leave for any period of time. This is a problem for many independent nursery operators I converse with on a regular basis.
