Do I need to let the secondary bracts next to the cyathia turn red and lay down flat before I drop the temps? When I do drop the temps, what is the best night and day temp to hold the cyathia? I won't be shading.
Hi Greenthumb - When you turn down temps to what we would consider holding temps (55-58F) the bracts should be completely colored. They may not be fully expanded but there shouldn't be any green showing. If you turn down the temps too early it will slow coloring and reduce expansion.
As long as the plants are healthy and ready for sale good holding temps would be 55-58F nights and 60F days. Some pinks and whites may respond to the colder temps by turning funny colors. Pinks can look purple and whites can turn greenish with cold temps if they have been grown warm to this point. If this happens you can play with the day temps a little and warm them up. Just remember when your are holding the plants they can't be too wet and airflow needs to be good and relative humidity reduced to avoid problems with root rotting and botrytis.
