Our poinsettias are shorter than normal, and was wondering if Fascination could still be used an what the last dates for use are.We are located in northern Ohio and have had cloudy or rainy days for most of October. We have used no growth regulators.

Stumpy -

We suggest you read this article buy Eric Runkle at Michigan State University:
Fascination on Poinsettia. The article discusses the use of Fascination to overcome overuse of growth regulators but it also details the guidlines for applications at various stages of the crop. Once you have had a chance to read the article, if you have any unanswered questions please let us know. Thanks!

Just a note on the GPN artical. Is it possible that the capsil rate is too high? On the top of the second page it has a rate of 16 oz. per 100 gal. I know the label does show rates that high but I have seen some leaf curl that might be from the capsil I am not sure.

Interesting that the GPN article says to use Capsil. The Fascination label specifically says NO spreaders, no stickers, no adjuvents, NOTHING. I followed label, but it sure doens't spread as nice without the Capsil.

On the fascination label point 11.0 it does say when making applications to poinsettia, the use of a wetting agent, such as Capsil is required.
I think we need to be careful that if we are spraying foliar feed of calcium and using Capsil that we allow some time before we use capsil again

Just a quick note on Capsil.....

Now that bracts are developing in our blooming crop at the Ranch we don't use more that 1 oz (this is a much lower rate that what is on the label) of Capsil in 100 gallons and never more than once in a 7 day period. It has been our experience that often times a phytotoxicity will occur from too much Capsil or overuse rather than the actual pesticide or growth regulator.
