I am starting to see some leaves turning color on two varieties Pres Early and orion. I looked at the Univ of Florida site from 2005 and dont see any color until around 10/25. Is this to early to see color? Is anyone else seeing it yet?

We did Orion in 2004 (http://hort.ifas.ufl.edu/floriculture/height2004/html/OR.htm) and hints of first color can be seen on 10/12 and is clearly seen at 10/19. In the height control examples this year, we are doing 2 natural day crops of Prestige Early Red (http://hort.ifas.ufl.edu/floriculture/height2007/) and they were not showing color on Tuesday of this week when pictures were taken, but I anticipate they will have color by next week’s picture. Last year, Prestige Early Red in other trials showed first color middle of Oct. and was finished about 11/17. This year, we now have color in Autumn Red, Early Freedom and Advent Red, which are all very early varieties. We do not have Orion on natural days this year. In general, you will see color earlier in cooler climates than we do in warmer climates. Jim
