The stems of my Enduring Whites are breaking off fairly easy.
Anyone else growing the Endurings?
If so are yours breaking off?

Ecke,
I have had to push all my points for size. My last irrigation was 11/15 200 ppm 15-0-15. Clear water since. Weekly Calcum sprays (stems and leaves) since the last week of Oct.
On everything with good color, what would be my temperature set points going forward?
I have a week before I begin to ship, will a neg diff toughen and tone my points.

tnt -

A negative DIF will not help your situation if you are looking for more size. A negative DIF or morning drop reduces stem elongation. Cool nights and warm days or a positive DIF promote stem elongation.

If the plants are where you want them to be color wise and in terms of bract expansion you can safely reduce temperatures, but again this will also reduce stem elongation. Warming temps to try and size up the plants will also speed color and for some varieties you might be finishing too warm.

What varieties are you growing and how much color are they showing. How much additional height are you looking for?

I guess I put too much info in this question.
This particular house is tall enough. I know that a neg dif will reduce internode elongation. And Im guessing that since they are in full color they will not be getting much taller. (Enduring White)

My question was, would a negative diff toughen up my Enduring Whites?

tnt - usually stem breakage is caused by poor branch angle and the architecture of the plant. As you know if the stems form at more of a horizontal angle or there are more stems on the plant than it can support stem breakage can be a problem. Poor architecture starts after pinch and is the result of pinch techniques, spacing, variety, etc. Unfortunately these issues are tough to correct at this stage in the game. While a negative DIF will reduce stem elongation it doesn't really play a role in stem strength at this point.
