We're getting ready to root some URC. I was wondering if you have any guidelines for misting, (i.e. Days 1-5: 10 seconds every 10 minutes, etc.)

I've never been able to get away with "setting and forgetting" the timing on misting cuttings due to changes in temperature and cloud cover. I generally set timers to keep the cuttings misted without getting a lot of excess moisture dripping on the media where it gets soggy and adjust the timing twice a day if necessary to compensate for weather changes. In my experience too much misting can be as bad as not enough and the cuttings will actually rot so it's a changing target in my case. Others will have different ideas I am sure.....Michael Pawelek

Michael's right - misting schedules will change with different environments but we can give you some guidelines to start with - than you can adjust your schedules based on the environment in your own greenhouse.
Sample Misting Schedule - Night Misting - Day 1-7 - 3x Day 8-14 - 2x Day 15-21 - 1x Day 22 on - off night misting Day Misting (10 second intervals) Day 1-3 - every 10 minutes Day 4-7 - every 15 minutes Day 8-14 - every 20 minutes Day 15-18 - every 30 minutes Day 19-21 - every 45 minutes Day 22 on - off misting and in toning area Again, this is only a sample schedule and your schedule may be different to best meet the needs of the cuttings. The key is to be flexible and willing to adjust misting frequencies daily or several times throughout the day. Good Luck! Thank you for using Ecke Ranch Tech Help on-line! |
