My students and I have started tracking our crops and we are currently right below the graph lines for minimum height at the current time. I am guessing that we are 1/2 to 1 inch below the growth rate to be in the "zone". We just removed our black cloth this week on Tuesday (Sep 11), keep the night temperature at 68 degrees. The plants were potted Aug 10th - 7" pots, Florel - 350 ppm - Aug 24th, pinched Aug 27 - 7 nodes, Florel - 350 ppm Sep 4. The plants look really nice, broke well and the new growth looks great. We do have several varieties - 18 - we are growing both of the trial packs as well as Prestige Red and Plum Pudding - By the way - whatever the 1090 Variety is - they look great! All colors!
Are we/I a little too anxious - should I wait another week and see what is happening in terms of growth rate? We want to make sure that our plants get big enough this year - last year we started too late and the plants were nice - just too short. Thank you in advance. |

If you are only 1/2" to an inch below the curve you still have plenty of time to get some height and you need not be too concerned at this point. Keep doing what you are doing with the warm night temps. Let your day temps stay warm and provide good light levels. Provide good air flow in the house and keep the relative humidity levels up. All these things will promote soft, rapid vegetative growth. You can also use a fertilizer containing up to 50% ammoniacal nitrogen which will also promote rapid growth.
It sounds like you have a nice crop and you and your students are doing a good job! Keep us posted. Thanks! Thank you for using Ecke Ranch Tech Help on-line! |
