I'm trying to figure out if axillary flowers will have an effect on the bracts at the terminal bud. Mainly, my whites and pinks are setting flowers in the leaf axils, some in about every node. Eventually this might look nice but I'd rather have nice big bracts for the selling season. What effect to the axillary flowers have on color timing and bract size?

Thanks,
Ernie

Hi Ernie - Certain varieties, and especially some whites and pinks will produce small flowers on the axillary shoots. Some growers choose to remove these because they feel that it takes away from the final finished display. This is a matter of personal preference but it shouldn't have and affect of the development of the terminal flowers. Hope this helps.....

Ernie, The customers that buy my Peterstar Pink and Peterstar White love the effect of the tiny blooms on the side stems. I leave them on!....Michael Pawelek
