Has anyone tried Florel on Geraniums to keep them from getting leggy? I cheat by growing some baskets over my 6" Geranium pots and it sometimes results in a leggy plant. Wondering if this would work as I have used the Florel sandwich technique on my Poinsettias and it definitely holds them back.

Florel is commonly used as a growth regulator and to improve branching on geraniums. It must be used early and at least 6-8 weeks prior to sale - it will delay flowering so if growth regulating is needed after flowers are formed Florel is not the best choice. Rates should be kept at 350 ppm to aviod burn and the Florel should can be applied at 7-10 intervals after the cuttings are established. Some growers apply a spray at the end of propagtion or at transplant using 150-200 ppm to enhance branching. If you decide to make this early application the cuttings must be healthy with a good root system. Make sure the cuttings are not under any moisture stress when the Florel spray is applied, the soil should be moist and the spray made at a time when the foliage can dry before sunlight hits the leaves. Spraying in the evening is the best way to avoid problems. The plants should also be in good health and the roots actively growing. Generally in 4" containers or on compact varieties, one application will be sufficient. On more vigorous varietes or in larger containers multiple Florel appliacations can be used, they just need to be timed so that the last application is used 6-8 weeks prior to sale to avoid flower delay.

Florel is very cost effective and when used early, and properly, you can achieve well branched, quality plants.
