Hi,
I seem to be having a huge problem with impatience this year. They don't seem to be getting any roots and the top growth is minimual. I have followed the same cultural practices that I have in other years but they just are not thriving. the ph of our water is 5.7. And our soil which is a compost mixture has a ph of 5.7-6. The only thing that I know we did different was a Safari drench on the other pots but I did not use it on them because of their lack of root system. I did comparison of temperature ranges from last year to this year. There was a slight difference. I run a continous feed fertilizer program using 20-20-20. Every 4th watering we switch to Cal- Mag. At a rate of 200 ppm. for both. Every other year by this time we have beautiful plants. The other thing that I have noticed is Fungus Knats. There does't appear to more than any other time. We repotted them and put them in pro-mix to see if the soil was the problem. I don't see any difference. We use very little chemicals in our greenhouse. Up to this point we didn't have to. So I don't think it could be a toxcity problem. We looked at the root system under a microscope and found no nemotodes or insect larve. I will be sending pictures shortly. Any ideas you have would be apprieciated. Thanks, Brenda Butt |
